I started a new house sit late yesterday afternoon. This one is located in Hamilton, in the suburb of Enderley. I’m here just for a few days to fill in a short window that I had in my schedule before the next property, which is due to start on January 28th. The Enderley homeowners have taken their caravan down the line a bit for the Auckland Anniversary weekend.
This is a nice comfy house fitted out with everything a house sitter needs and the neighbourhood is proving to be relatively quiet so far, certainly nothing extreme in the way of suburban sounds. The nearest shopping centre is Chartwell, which is about a 5-minute drive away so that’s nice and handy.
I have just the one pet here to take care of (okay, spoil) – a German Shorthaired Pointer (GSP) who goes by the name of Shadoe (spelled with an ‘e’), who probably doesn’t get as much exercise as this particular breed needs (GSPs are high-energy dogs). And like all good GSPs he is mad about chasing and fetching balls. So while I’m here I’ll be taking him over to the park area at Porritt Stadium which is a nice quick drive around the corner. There, he’ll be getting a good 2-hour blast early each morning, from 7am to 9am before it starts getting hot.
We went for our first run-around this morning. We got there around 6:45am and by the time we left at 9am he was looking pretty chuffed with his 2 and a bit hours of chasing his little red ball around the park. We’ll be doing the same thing tomorrow (possibly in the rain – make note to take a brolly) and again Monday morning. He’s a really nice-natured dog and at home he’s rather attached to his stuffed bunny toy which he likes to carry around with him or he’ll “ask” me to throw Mr Bunny so he can go fetch it. Poor Mr Bunny.
